Ekaterina Zaznova
Watercolor marine artist
Born in 1990
Ekaterina expands the expressive language of watercolor through experimentation with material, texture, and form. Creator of the original “Watercolor & Alcohol” technique, she explores transformation, perception, and the hidden structures of inner and external worlds, allowing watercolor to move beyond tradition into a contemporary visual language.
Ekaterina Zaznova is a contemporary watercolor artist based in New Jersey, USA, known for redefining the expressive possibilities of watercolor through experimental techniques and conceptual depth.
She is the creator of the original “Watercolor & Alcohol” technique, registered with the U.S. Copyright Office, in which alcohol is used not as an effect, but as a primary structural medium shaping organic textures and complex visual forms.
Zaznova is also the author of the book “Watercolor. Identity. Recognition.”, expanding her artistic methodology into a conceptual framework that connects material experimentation with personal and artistic identity.
In addition to her studio practice, she is the founder and creative director of international watercolor education platforms, including ProAkvarel and About Watercolour, which unite over 10,000 artists worldwide and reach more than 200,000 viewers monthly.
Her work has been exhibited internationally, including participation in the Affordable Art Fair New York and major juried exhibitions, where her work has been selected among highly competitive pools of submissions.
Zaznova is a member of leading professional organizations, including the American Watercolor Society (AWS), NorthWest Watercolor Society (NWWS), National Watercolor Society (NWS), the Union of Russian Watercolorists, and the Eurasian Artists’ Union.
Her artistic practice spans multiple series including Stream of Thoughts, Flower Talismans, Textures, and Marine Motifs exploring themes of transformation, perception, and the hidden structures of both inner and external worlds through experimental watercolor language.
