A reclining cat rests on a skateboard beneath palm trees, suspended in a sun-bleached landscape that immediately evokes the mythology of the American West Coast.
The slogan “Born to Chill” appears within the composition as both affirmation and satire. It functions as a cultural shorthand — referencing the commodified image of Californian ease, leisure, and perpetual youth.
Yet the animal’s body, heavy and grounded, contrasts with the fantasy of effortless motion suggested by the skateboard. The scene hovers between stillness and performance, between authenticity and branding.
Palm trees and cloudless sky flatten into a stylized backdrop, amplifying the constructed nature of the idyll. What appears carefree is carefully staged.
The work questions whether “chill” is a state of being — or a marketed identity.
In Catifornia, relaxation becomes aesthetic, and leisure becomes spectacle.
