BIO
Maria Vetkalova, Experienced artist
Based in Moscow, Born 1985
Maria Vetkalova is a Contemporary Collage Artist, most known for creating unique artworks using specifically VOGUE magazine as a medium. Born (1985), raised and currently based in Moscow her particular visual language of evocative works is inspired by nature, has organic shapes and looks like a floral pattern.
As the artist says she creates patterns that tell unique stories through hand cut elements of VOGUE. Their details, textures, smooth lines are like music for her, a universal language that is able to connect with like-minded souls all over the world without saying a word
Why VOGUE?
The idea of creating collages using VOGUE magazine came from the concept of Recycled Beauty.
"I wanted to be inspired by something that was already inspiring, to take something of value, something that’s out of ordinary, and add something beautiful to it.”
In a digital era paper magazines might be gone in the near future. Maria found her own way to express love for fashion, capture the history of a certain era and share contemporary culture in a form of artwork with viewers all over the world. The medium itself becomes an inspiration. It opens endless possibilities of creating a series of works related to the theme of art, music, fashion and turning something beautiful and temporary into timeless and unique.
She has experience in solo exhibitions, for example, exhibitions at "VOGUE Inside Me" at ISTOK Studio in Moscow. Among the numerous group exhibitions in which Maria has participated, it is worth mentioning the "Flare Up" exhibition in Berlin at Galeria Azur and the "Russian Artist against War" exhibition at Artseeker Gallery in New York.
