BIO

Yulia Belasla, Experienced artist

Based in Moscow, Born 1987

Yulia Belasla is a artist who primarily works with acrylic and oil paints and often incorporates various types of leaf gilding into her artworks. The artist states, "In my practice, I work with painting, exploring themes of love, human relationships, Slavic traditions, and the corporeality of the information world. I work in traditional techniques, using oil, acrylic, watercolor, and gold leaf. The internal volume of the paintings is achieved solely through the contrast of cool and warm color palettes. In other words, I avoid creating a sense of depth, turning the composition into an ornamental correspondence or icon-painting practice. The symbolic structure of objects and characters, along with the addition of decorative elements to the space, refers to ancient cultural codes and symbolic systems. The two main genres of my works are still life and portraits. The artist combines mythology, legends, and assembles them into an anthropomorphic image. It is read through signs woven into the perception of each individual. In the artist's opinion, gaze and emotions are the brightest colors of the universe, a universal language understood by everyone. The artist has always been interested in how people are emotionally connected to each other. The interaction of these connections shapes her approach to developing themes in her artworks."
