The diptych by Katrin Rymsha "Harbingers of Fish" addresses urgent ecological issues, especially noticeable in India where the artist currently resides and works. The first painting "Warning" immerses us in the atmosphere of an impending crisis through images of fish emerging from the dark depths of the ocean. Four silent witnesses — four fish, stand before us as symbolic harbingers of the apocalypse. These marine creatures, once embodying the life and abundance of the ocean, now represent a grim allegory of inevitable calamity. They seem to be trying to warn us about the upcoming changes, worth pondering over.
In the second painting of the diptych "Consequence", we see fish skeletons and decomposing bodies, reflecting the irreversibility of the point of no return. What has been lost can no longer be retrieved. This symbolic imagery reminds us of the nearing ecological disaster and that our actions today directly determine the future of our planet tomorrow.
While in India, Katrin witnessed a horrifying spectacle - vast amounts of garbage ejected by the ocean during the monsoon season. The ocean turns into a dump of plastic: like a gigantic centrifuge, it cyclically absorbs and throws tons of trash onto the shore, which covers more and more territories, poisoning all living things.
The artist hopes that her work will serve as a warning. We need to reflect on the trail we leave in the environment, and what consequences may arise from our actions. Ecology is not just a fashionable word; it is a matter of our planet’s survival and the well-being of future generations.
As the teaching of yoga on "Saucha" proclaims, maintaining purity within oneself is a care for the body, soul, and mind. We must preserve the purity of nature, for it is our temple and our home. The diptych "Harbingers of Fish" urges us to reflect, change our habits, and start acting to prevent the advent of the apocalypse and preserve our world.
